How to Manage Sales & Cost Rates in Tone

In Tone, the Contracts tool includes flexible, granular options to configure sales rates and cost rates. These tools give you full control over how income and expenses are applied to a contract during royalty calculations — making it easy to reflect the exact terms of any deal, no matter how complex.


🎧 Sales Rates

Sales rates determine how much of incoming income a payee should receive, based on conditions like territory, distribution channel, and more.

To access and manage sales rates:

  1. Go to Contracts & Catalog in the main nav.
  2. Click on Royalty Rates to open the spreadsheet view.
  3. Click on Details beside the contract name to open its details panel.
  4. Scroll to or jump to the Sales Rates section.

Here’s what you can do once you’re there:

➕ Add a Sales Rate

Click + Add a rate to create a new rate line. By default, it sets the rate to 100% of Net Receipts.

Then, you can customize:

Tone Tip! The most specific rate always takes precedence. If multiple rate conditions overlap, the one with the most detailed criteria wins.
