🎧 Importing Your Catalog with Tone's Importer Tool

The importer tool is a quick and efficient way to get your music catalog data directly into Tone. It pulls essential metadata — falling back from Spotify to Apple Music to MusicBrainz as needed — saving you significant time on manual data entry.

📍 Accessing the Importer

You can find the importer tool within the Library. Click Fetch Metadata (previously labeled "Import from Spotify") under the Tracks or Releases dropdown menus in the Library sidebar menu.

Tone Tip: This tool now pulls metadata from Apple Music and MusicBrainz too, not just Spotify — Tone automatically falls back to whichever source has a match. Each result shows a View on Spotify / View on Apple Music / etc. link so you can confirm the source.

🔎 Searching for Releases

The tool offers several ways to search for the releases you want to import:

• Search Bar: Search by common terms like Artist Name, Track Name, or official identifiers such as UPC and ISRC.

  • Example: If you search for "Adele," the results will show all of her releases and tracks, as well as any other results containing the word "Adele."

  

• Tip: Searching by ISRC will return all releases that contain that recording — including singles, compilations, and deluxe editions. This makes it easy to find every release a song appears on.

• URI: Paste a specific URI directly into the search bar for the most accurate result.

• Bulk Identifiers: You can search for up to 20 identifiers at a time. Make sure they are separated by a comma.

  • Example: Entering two UPCs separated by a comma (e.g., 886443673632, 191404093863) will show both associated releases, such as the 'Skyfall' and '19' albums in the example.

  Tone Tip: If a search or import briefly fails with "Spotify is temporarily unavailable. Please try again shortly," Spotify's API is rate-limiting requests — wait a few seconds and try again.

📥 The Import Process

1. Select: Find the release you want to import in the search results. Select it on the left side of the screen.
2. Import: Click on the Import button on the right side.

✅ Finalizing and Saving Your Data

Importing a release will bring in all associated tracks and the core release metadata. However, there are two key pieces of information you must add before saving:
